HOWDAAAAY TEXAS
Almost four weeks after the Singapore Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen and the rest of the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team is ready for new battles. The United States Grand Prix – the first in a triple header that also features the Grands Prix of Mexico and Brazil – takes place at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, – and the Danish race ace is looking forward to the weekend for specific reasons.
“We’re an American race team, so the United States Grand Prix is obviously a big race for us, and it’s also a Sprint Weekend which I really like. COTA is a great track, and it has some of the biggest crowds of the year, it’s a massive event. We’ve had good and bad races there, but hopefully we should be strong this year as it’s a medium-downforce track, and that tends to suit us. I’ve had some good battles there in the past and I’m hoping to score points,” says Kevin Magnussen.
Kevin Magnussen and teammate Nico Hulkenberg qualified 6th and 8th respectively for the fourth Sprint race of the season, which according to the Dane is promising for the weekend where the Haas VF-23 race cars will run with new upgrades.
DID YOU KNOW THAT … Circuit of The Americas is designed by the famous Formula One circuit wizard Hermann Tilke and opened in 2012. And if the corners at the Austin based track seem familiar, they should be. Turns 3 through 6 look not dissimilar to Silverstone’s high-speed run through Maggotts/Becketts or the S Curves at Suzuka, while Turns 12 through 15 mimic Hockenheim’s stadium section…
Race Day
RACEDAY IN AUSTIN
Howdy, folks! Kevin Magnussen will start from 8th place in the United States Grand Prix after a strong qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. The Danish Formula 1 driver has already secured points in the USA, where he and teammate Nico Hulkenberg finished 7th and 8th respectively in Saturday’s Sprint Race. Hopefully, K-Mag can maintain the momentum and bring home more points in Sunday’s Grand Prix, where he’ll be driving an upgraded version of the Haas VF-24.
“Points on home soil – that’s amazing! Saturday was a really good day for us, both in terms of the Sprint and the qualifying. It’s great to be able to bolt the upgrade onto the car and have it work; I think that’s a really big positive, and I’m looking forward to going racing,” says Kevin Magnussen.
Race Recap
“We’re one step higher, and that’s positive”
Kevin Magnussen was close to scoring points in the United States Grand Prix held at the Circuit of the Americas on Sunday. The Dane started in 8th place and was running as high as 7th during the race, but a unlucky two-stop strategy and some messy communication towards the end of the race unfortunately dropped K-Mag to 11th at the finish line. His teammate Nico Hulkenberg finished in 8th place.
“A mixed result for the team. On my side, we didn’t get any points in the Grand Prix, although we had a good chance of getting some. We were discussing a one-stopper, but we didn’t manage it. Overall, it’s been a good weekend; we had both cars in the points in the Sprint Race, and we’ve moved from 7th to 6th in the Constructors’ Championship, so that’s positive,” said Kevin Magnussen.
