Pre Race

THE ORIGINAL NIGHT RACE 🇸🇬✨🌆

It’s time for the Singapore Grand Prix, and Kevin Magnussen is back in his Haas VF-24 after serving his race ban in Baku. And what a weekend to come back to, as we are approaching one of the highlights of the season – the magical night race in ‘The Lion City.’

“Street circuits are my favorite category of tracks, and Singapore is a special one, the original night race. It’s one of my favorite tracks. It’s one of the biggest challenges physically of the year, with only Qatar joining that list. With the heat, humidity, and the length of the race, and just because you never really get a break throughout the lap, it’s a constant sequence of corners over the whole lap pretty much,” said Kevin Magnussen.

“I feel like we have a good car for Singapore. It’s a low-speed track, and we should be in a decent position to be competitive. There have been some interesting races in the past, and we finished in the points in Singapore last year, so I’m hoping to do that again.”

DID YOU KNOW THAT … Joining the calendar in 2008, the Singapore Grand Prix hosted the first night-time race in Formula 1 history. The 4.9 km Marina Bay Circuit is illuminated by thousands of powerful lights, turning night into daylight, while the floodlit skyscrapers and the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel provide a spectacular backdrop to the racing action. The circuit is one of the most physically demanding, with its bumpy surface coupled with humid conditions giving the drivers a lot of work – the physical stress causing them to lose as much as 3kg in body weight over the course of a race! Oh, and Kevin Magnussen set the race’s fastest lap twice, in 2018 and 2019 respectively…

Quali Day

SINGAPORE SHOWDOWN 👊🇸🇬✨

Kevin Magnussen finished 14th, while Nico Hülkenberg ended sixth in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. That’s a mixed start for the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, but despite being a few spots behind his teammate on the starting grid, the Danish race ace is positive about tomorrow’s race.

“It was very marginal, even though P14 doesn’t look great. There’s so little in it that we could’ve been in Q3, so we were just on the wrong end of those margins. The car is in a good place, and Nico had amazing pace in qualifying, so I have faith we can move forward tomorrow, and we can have a good day. In the first few runs, I felt more competitive, but other people picked up more pace than I did, and I probably reached my maximum with the car,” says Kevin Magnussen.

Race Recap

“We’re still in a good spot with the car.”

The Singapore Grand Prix didn’t unfold as Kevin Magnussen had hoped, with the Dane forced to retire 10 laps from the finish after suffering a puncture. Despite the setback, Magnussen remains optimistic about the upcoming races, starting with the US Grand Prix in Texas next month.

“I got a puncture – sometimes you hit a rough spot, and it cuts the tire. We weren’t quick on the hard tire, we tried to do the opposite strategy and go long and hope for a safety car in the middle window, which didn’t happen. We had to cut it short on the hard compound, and then I got the puncture at the end. We’ve had good pace at recent races and we’re still in a good spot with the car. We have an upgrade coming in Austin and we have every race to look forward to for the rest of the season,” said Kevin Magnussen.
