Pre Race
¡HOLA MÉXICO!
Fresh off a points-scoring weekend in Austin, Texas, Kevin Magnussen is ready to take on another challenge – this time in Mexico City. The 20th round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the legendary Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, known for its loooong straight and phenomenal stadium section. The Danish MoneyGram Haas F1 Team driver is optimistic about the upcoming Grand Prix.
“Mexico is a fun city, a fun track, and a fun event with an amazing atmosphere created by all the Mexican fans. It’s also unique with the thin air – we’re racing over 2 km above sea level – which is tough on the cars in terms of cooling, and aerodynamically, it’s a challenging venue,” says Kevin Magnussen.
“I think we’ve had some good and bad races here in the past, but our car is in a good place, the update seems to be working. In Mexico, here compared to last year with the cooling, it’s a very big difference, it’s much better this season. That’s a good feeling and hopefully we can be in the fight for points.”
DID YOU KNOW THAT … Built in Mexico City’s Magdalena Mixiuhca sports park in 1959, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez was constructed using existing internal roads. The circuit hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1962 and, in its updated 4.3 km layout with a spectacular stadium section, has been part of the modern Formula 1 calendar since 2015. Its name honors the famous Mexican racing brothers, Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez, both of whom tragically lost their lives while racing on the circuit.
Quali Day
READY TO GO RACING
It was a Super Saturday for Kevin Magnussen as he finished on a strong P7 in qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix – the best qualifying result this season for the Admin By Request-powered Formula 1 driver! With teammate Nico Hulkenberg in P10, the chances are good for another points-scoring weekend for the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team.
“Two cars in the top 10 again, so that’s a good day for us – and I think I’m ahead of the people we want to be ahead of. This track is very dirty on the inside line, so it’s a bonus to be starting on the left-hand side. It should be a good starting point for a top-10 finish,” says Kevin Magnussen.
“We obviously want to finish as high up as we can, but we’re really in a fight with Racing Bulls and, to some extent, Williams and Alpine as well, so we need to finish ahead of them and in the points.”
Race Recap
“We got everything right”
Wow! Kevin Magnussen really smashed it with a P7 finish in the Mexican Grand Prix! With teammate Nico Hulkenberg coming in at P9, the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team clinched their best result ever at the challenging Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
“It was a perfect day, really. We got everything right; the balance of the car was in that sweet spot, and I was able to manage the tires when I needed to and push hard when I needed to. P7 is a better result than we could’ve hoped for. The last year or so has been tough for me, and I feel like I’m finding my rhythm again, so I hope we can finish this year really nailing points in these last four races,” said Kevin Magnussen.
